VIRGINIO “MARCUS” MARCOS

May 23, 1961 – December 6, 2010

Undefeated in spirit with the biggest of heart, even through his battle with cancer, Marcus, also known to family and friends as “Junior” is survived by his loving wife Ann Takiguchi Marcos, mother Josephine Marcos, brothers Efren (Mila Farinas) and Alan, sisters Jocelyn (Lloyd) Ishikawa and Elizabeth (Gilbert) Navarro, 12 nieces and nephews, and his Labradors -- Pono (a.k.a. Vincent in LOST), Hone’ and Nui.

A passionate waterman and local entrepreneur (owner of Diamond Head Cove health bar), Marcus was always sharing, a true ambassador of Aloha.  A multi-talented fisherman, diver, surfer, and avid canoe paddler, he always remembered his humble beginnings from Palolo. A strong work ethic, Marcus got his first job at the tender age of 11, delivering newspapers in Kaimuki. Graduating from Kaimuki High School, Marcus received a scholarship to attend the University of Hawaii where he received a BA Degree in Journalism with emphasis on PR and Advertising Sales. Popular amongst his student body, Marcus was elected and served as an ASUH Senator. A man of many skills, Marcus had a multitude of jobs, excelling at many, including top Sales Executive and Account Manager for large office equipment companies such as Lanier Worldwide Inc., Ricoh Corp, Servco Integrated Office Technology, IKON Office Solutions, and University Imaging and Copy Systems.

In 2003, he opened his own business, living his dream incorporating the many things he loved. He could be found daily at his shop, “The Cove”, selling some of the islands’ best acai bowls, local fish and fresh brewed Hawaiian ‘awa (kava). From family and friends, to visitors, Marcus shared his love for the culture with open arms.

A “Celebration of Life” to honor Marcus is planned for Saturday, January 22, at the large lawn area of Ft DeRussy Park in Waikiki.  At 8:30 a.m. family and friends are invited to take part in a prayer before paddling out to his favorite surf spot at Threes.  Lunch will follow with continuous music until 6:30 p.m.
